Alyssa Rose Ivy - The Hazards of Skinny Dipping. Medium (1)

addtogoodreadsblack

This isn’t a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I’d be happy to recommend one, but I don’t have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It’s the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it’s also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.

My review…

I gave The Hazards of Skinny Dipping 4 out of 5 Book Nerds????????????????????????????????????????

*I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.*

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping was a welcome change to all the heavy reads I had gotten through lately. The blurb outlines what we can expect and I’m glad the humour was held throughout.

Juliet’s story begins with-you guessed it-skinny dipping in her own backyard. Although she didn’t anticipate her childhood crush turning up at the exact same time. But it worked in her favour as they were both grown up now and the attraction was mutual. Juliet felt she was the luckiest girl alive to finally get the boy she had lusted over. The only problem with expectations are they can be set too high and this was the case for poor Dylan. Juliet was left disappointed after she soon discovered Dylan was less than the Sex God she had imagined him to be between the sheets.

When Juliet began college, Dylan had plans to pick up where their skinny dipping escapades had left off. I could tell immediately that Dylan was a douche and I was proven right. He felt his intentions were good but really he had no regards for Juliet at times and his behaviour was controlling and intimidating. I did get a little frustrated at Juliet as I wanted her to take a stand sooner but then it did allow the angst to build up and it made her White Knight in shining armour stand out all the more.

Cue Reed Bryce aforementioned White Knight.  I loved Reed, but then I always do love the kind, sweet attentive guys. Juliet and Reed had some funny encounters at the start and then he offered Juliet a job at the restaurant where he was the manager. I loved to watch their relationship slowly develop over time, they had built up a really strong friendship even though I was desperately telling the two of them to hurry up and get together already!

This was a really fun story about Juliet’s journey through college and navigating her way through life, with love, sex and friendships. I was pleased it didn’t follow the usual format of big secrets and heavy angst. Even though a small secret came to light at the end. I knew from the outset the intentions were good so all was easily forgiven. I enjoyed Alyssa Rose Ivy’s writing style and the story flowed well.  However, I would have liked more of Juliet and Reed towards the end. Things picked up at 70% and I was greedy for more of them. I also would have liked more details in their intimate scenes. Not because I am a smexy scene lover, I promise ;) I just wanted to feel their already great connection more by revelling in the details and at times I felt those parts were over too quickly.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping was a funny, light story. It will make you laugh out loud and swoon over Reed. A perfect beach book for this summer.
